Homosexual plights not understood

Rishi Kundi’s column titled “‘U’ should lighten up about fraternity actions” (SN 4/18) shows a sad misunderstanding about what it is like to be gay and lesbian in America. I am a gay professor.

Woods is among all-time greats

This is in response to Steve Thomas’ letter to the editor, “Woods nothing close to being best athlete” (SN 4/18). Anyone who’s ever watched Tiger Woods play could not possibly contend what he does isn’t athletic.

COMMENTARY

Fix it

It has become apparent that the Residence Halls Association has some serious restructuring to do, and it may take authoritative oversight to accomplish that.

COMMENTARY

Its not free

Since the membership of Pi Kappa Phi has come under fire for poking fun at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, some have tried to justify the fraternity’s actions as protected by the First Amendment. But the bottom line is that the constitutional right to free speech does not apply to this case. When some fraternity members went into the Mason and Abbot halls cafeterias on April 1 and April 2 wearing pink T-shirts with phrases such as “I like little boys,” “Capt.

Dont use bigotry to protest for peace

In regards to the Rally for Peace in Palestine held on the Capitol steps (“Concurrent peace rallies show Middle East divisions,” SN 4/15), it hurts to see two groups divided over a common issue - peace. Where do groups get off claiming to be anti-racist activists when they spout anti-Semitic slogans?

Work loaded

Too often we read reports from various studies that attempt to spoon-feed us findings consisting of data and facts we all ready know - a recent report by the State Public Interest Research Group’s Higher Education Project is no exception. The report found many college students are working 25 hours or more per week.

Stop complaining, dont drive U roads

This is a response to “Campus Driving Annoys Students” (SN 4/17). I hear Jackie Froeber and others complaining endlessly about driving on campus, yet it is entirely their own faults.

Good music still comes from Detroit

While Dan Julian’s review of the White Stripes was right on (”White Stripes revive Detroit’s music past,” SN 4/16). It was the opening that ruined the otherwise stellar review.

COMMENTARY

Irresponsible

The continuing show of irresponsibility on the part of the Residence Halls Association forces the organization’s legitimacy to be called into question.

COMMENTARY

Rude people in cars annoy pedestrian

Having just read Jackie Froeber‘s column “Campus driving annoys students” (SN 4/17), I’m a bit annoyed. I am so tired of rude selfish drivers who think they can do whatever they please.

COMMENTARY

Fair ruling

Although it is hard to stomach the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a provision of a 1996 child pornography law on the grounds they were overly broad and in violation of First Amendment protections, the interpreters of the Constitution reached a just conclusion. The court ruled Tuesday that the statute could call into question legitimate, educational, scientific and artistic depictions of youthful sex.

COMMENTARY

Good relations

Cultural awareness and diversity are key to improving relations between students and police officers.

COMMENTARY

U should lighten up about fraternity actions

As occasionally happens at this university, the campus is up in arms over the actions of members of a fraternity. For those of you under a rock, members of the Pi Kappa Phi chapter at MSU decided to enter Mason and Abbot Halls’ cafeterias two weeks ago wearing pink, sleeveless T-shirts with the slogans “Capt.
