Jacksons visit to campus good for U

It was with great interest that I read about the Sept. 15 visit to MSU by the Rev. Jesse Jackson (“Jackson to visit campus” SN 9/6). Even more exciting is the topic of his talk that day - peace.

Remain vigilant while honoring lost lives

On the one-year anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks the world has ever seen, it is essential that we, the students of MSU, remember that more than 3,000 individuals lost their lives simply because they upheld the democratic way of life. Americans have ignored the threat that terrorism poses to the world’s democratic societies for far too long.

A day of healing

No one needs to be reminded what this day means. Yet wherever we look today, those reminders will be there. This was the day, one year ago, a generation’s innocence was shattered by the worst terrorist attacks on U.S.

Dont let college life foster ignorance

Just three weeks into the semester, and it’s happening already. Despite my feeble attempts to resist, I’m slipping into the abyss of college ignorance. I’m not talking about stupidity.

Peoples voice

MSU will benefit from a visit from another prominent figure as students might have the chance to have their fears and concerns about life after the Sept.

Understanding

It’s pretty much a fact of life - things don’t often work out the way people expect them to, especially the first time around.

Hot Seats

It seems like enjoying football games at Spartan Stadium is becoming more of a hassle, especially for students. As MSU kicked off against the Rice Owls on Saturday, many students were stranded in line on the ramp to the upper deck, while ushers tried to maintain order and ensure people were going to their assigned seats.

In response to Jason Shaw’s letter, “Pizza review out of touch with reality” (SN 8/28), concerning the pizza review, his opinion about Bell’s Greek Pizza is out of reality. Bell’s has been in East Lansing for more than 30 years - most likely before Shaw was born.

City of Blues

East Lansing is beginning to look more like corporate America as small, locally-owned businesses close to make room for larger, chain-owned stores. The latest victim: Blue Note Coffee Café. After four years of trying to sell the store, its owners are being forced out of their 623 E.

Life experience proves most Americans not polite people

This may be too ambiguous a societal facet to judge, but I wonder what happened to the value of having manners - or at least caring about other people. It just seems like a many of people are rude and impolite. Maybe I’m not the only one who feels courtesy and decorum are becoming a bunch of old-fashioned “rules” taking a back seat to modern modes and indecency. I’m not contending I’m the world’s most civilized person.

Disabilities dont make people heroes

Although Aaron Miller’s attempt to bring the MSU community’s attention to the challenges faced by people with disabilities in this country and on this campus is well motivated (“Memories of Sept.

Loaded plans

Guns have no place on airplanes - in the cabin or the cockpit - despite the Bush administration’s plan to test run a program that will arm America’s commercial pilots. Sources close to the White House told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the administration’s plan will be announced soon and Congressman John Mica, R-Fla., said that Bush said he will work with Capitol Hill to arm pilots.
