Bice's statements on faith misguided

As a person of faith who voted for John Kerry, I must challenge John Bice's ignorant statements in his column "Bush supporters share common thread with fundamentalists," (SN 11/10). His statements labeling people of faith as uneducated and separated from reality are insults to individuals of all faiths. I do not know whom the 2003 Harris Poll surveyed for its findings, but they were not people of my community of faith, most of whom hold advanced degrees.

I am writing in response to Chris Hansen's letter "Izzo's arrogance readily apparent" (SN 11/9). It became apparent to me when reading this letter that it is OK to be a supporter of the basketball team only when it is convenient. This should not be the case, and that was head coach Tom Izzo's message Sunday night.

Andréa Minella's letter, "Abortion cases not always clear issues" (SN 11/8) is nonfactual and an attempt at portraying those who oppose her view as being unsympathetic, specifically toward women. First of all, abortion is a very cruel means of ending a life.

Two MSU football players were arrested Tuesday for a prank - plain and simple. Irving Campbell and Terry Love, both redshirt freshman wide receivers, did not intend to threaten or hurt anyone.

SN should get off its P.C. 'high horse'

Whoever wrote the "Hurtful Mascot" (SN 11/8) editorial needs to get off his or her high horse and the politically correct bandwagon all at once. There was a rash of name changes in the early 1990s, and many teams and communities are lamenting them.

I completely disagree with the editorial "Smooth Sailing" (SN 11/9). As one of the loyal few who stayed up until 5 a.m., waiting for those last few states to be called, I was one of many, many people along both party lines that were screaming at Wolf Blitzer to call Ohio for the Republicans already.

Gay marriage vote reflects America

In response to Nathan Crandall's outrageous attempts to blame the religious right for the downfall of society ("11 states mistaken in marriage votes" SN 11/8), if you truly are ashamed to be an American, move to Canada. Yes, 11 states passed proposals concerning gay marriage.

SN made illogical mascot argument

I find a strange logic working in the editorial "Hurtful mascot" (SN 11/8). The staff opinion states "Mascots work better sticking to the realm of animals and mythological creatures" and "isolating and ascribing certain behaviors to a group of people will cause only one thing - prejudice." However, our own mascot here at MSU is not an animal nor a mythological creature.

Hazy concept

MSU hasn't had a problem with hazing this year. The University of Michigan, on the other hand, has. At U-M, a number of greek chapters went under investigation last month.

When I went with my girlfriend to the men's basketball Izzone ticket meeting on Sunday, I witnessed an episode of "My Short, Balding, Obnoxious Basketball Coach." First, we waited in line for a half-hour outside just to get in Breslin Center.
