Teacher applicants not meeting state expectations

School superintendents around Michigan are reportedly less than impressed with applicants for teaching jobs recently, and it’s contributing to a teacher shortage in some subject areas across the state. Michigan Education Association (MEA) President Steven Cook said, “on the one hand, they will get a lot of applicants, but they won’t get, many times, the kind of folks they’re looking for.”

Three ELPD K-9s honored, retire to normal life

Emotions ran high Wednesday afternoon at a retirement ceremony for three East Lansing Police Department K-9s held at the East Lansing City Hall. 54-B District Court housed the festivities in honor of Diesel, Tia and Max, three dogs who very recently ended their service with ELPD.

The phrase “fake news” has entered the vernacular after a presidential campaign in which, according to a BuzzFeed study, Facebook engagements for fake news stories topped Facebook engagements for authentic stories during the last three months of the election.
