MSU Power Plant to test biofuel from algae

Squishy, blue-green, wet, growing algae — what usually is thought of as fish food — potentially is a key to some of the energy and fuel sustainability challenges facing society. With the help of MSU researchers, algal biofuel research might be used to produce vegetable oils that can be transformed into clean transportation biofuels.

Culture, soul food connects students

The savory smell of creamy macaroni and cheese and crispy fried chicken mixed with the sounds of saxophones and booming music from DJ speakers drew students to the Hubbard Hall cafeteria for the Soul Food Extravaganza as a final farewell to 2013’s Black History Month. Outside the cafeteria Thursday night, a line of students wrapped around the staircase to the main floor.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan is about to receive a big boost. The “Make Blue and Green Wishes Come True” campaign runs this week at University of Michigan and MSU. The fundraising competition is part of the lead up to the MSU vs. U-M basketball game this weekend.
