13 women to file lawsuit against MSU over Nassar assaults

Lawyers have filed a letter of intent to sue MSU over alleged assaults and abuse of 13 women and girls by ex-MSU faculty member and former USA Gymnastics physician Larry Nassar, according to court documents acquired by The State News. Lawyers filed a letter in the Court of Claims as a notice of intent to file a claim, a procedural move.  Potential claims included "Violations of Title IX," "Negligent failure to warn," "Negligent supervision" MSU spokesperson Jason Cody responded to the intent to file with this statement: “While we have not been served with any lawsuit and therefore are unable to comment on any potential litigation, I can tell you we take allegations of sexual abuse very seriously.

Two MSU students selected as Mitchell Scholars

Comparative cultures and politics and Arabic senior Margaret Born and Joel Arnold, James Madison College and College of Social Science alumnus who graduated in 2015, have been selected as Mitchell Scholars. The George Mitchell Scholarship honors former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, who was influential in the peace process in Northern Ireland and serves to maintain connections between Ireland and future American leaders.

Amid data breach, MSU offering free credit monitoring

The attack is under active investigation by MSU police, and it is currently not known what made this specific attack more potent than others MSU has faced. Cody said he's still not at liberty to discuss details because of that and because the investigation is still ongoing.

Ex-MSU doctor Larry Nassar in police custody following Attorney General investigation

The Ingham County Sheriff's office confirmed that ex-MSU faculty member Larry Nassar is in police custody following an investigation by the Michigan Attorney General. According to court records obtained by the Lansing State Journal, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette's office obtained a felony warrant for arrest on three charges of first-degree sexual conduct with a person under 13, attributed to Nassar. For these charges, Nassar could face up to life in prison.

ASMSU low on funds for safe ride program, might implement tax

The Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) is still working on developing a Safe Rides program for students to get home safely and to take proactive measures against assaults on and off-campus. MSU is one of the few Big Ten universities that has not developed a Safe Rides program and ASMSU has been working on developing the service for almost five years.

MSU suffers data breach, exposing about 400,000 university records

MSU suffered a data breach exposing a database with about 400,000 records on Nov. 13, the university has confirmed. An unauthorized party accessed a university server which contains "sensitive data," according to the press release. Database contained about 400,000 records, including names, social security numbers and MSU identification numbers of some current and former students and employees.

Sparty's Cabin up for auction at MSU's Surplus Store

Sparty’s Cabin, an environmentally sustainable “tiny house” built on a trailer, is now up for auction through a closed bid on the MSU Surplus Store’s website. The house will be on display on the front lawn of the Justin S. Morrill Hall of Agriculture this Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a press release from MSU Agriculture and Natural Resources.
