MSU Memorial Tree honors shooting victims, students who died during academic year

A year after the February 13th shooting, only one permanent memorial honoring the students who were killed graces Michigan State University’s campus – the 2022-23 Student Memorial Tree. Data science sophomore Clara Linjewile believes the university should work with the families of the students who passed away to truly honor their lives. “Given the context of how they passed away, I feel like their lives should just be honored in a more significant way,” Linjewile said.

MSU Museum preserves items from memorials created in wake of campus shooting

In the weeks following the Feb. 13, 2023 shooting on MSU's campus, the MSU Museum began the process of preserving, digitizing, and archiving the thousands of items that were left at memorial sites across campus. From handwritten notes to stuffed animals, the museum plans to add all memorial items to its Cultural Collection, which will likely take another year to complete.

Max Sheldon and Ozan Baris, two Michigan State tennis players who act as a dynamic duo on the tennis court, have received an honor from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, or ITA, as being ranked as the number one doubles pair in the country. This achievement marks the first time any Spartan, either as a singles player or in a doubles team, has ever been ranked No. 1 in the country in the ITA rankings, the largest ranking organization in collegiate tennis.

MSU Police and Public Safety officers responded to a false alarm call from someone who reported seeing a person inside of the Engineering Building holding what they thought might be a weapon this afternoon. The officers determined that the item the person was holding was not a weapon.

The drive is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FAFSA recipients must wait until April for financial aid following delay

The U.S. Department of Education announced that Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FASFA, packages will be delayed until April. The delay is to fix a $1.8 billion mistake that could potentially have harmed low-income students' packages. The department's mathematic formula incorrectly overestimated the annual income of low-income students' households, meaning they would earn less than what they need in financial aid as a result of this error.
