Born amidst the protests sparked over the shooting of Trayvon Martinch and death of Freddie Gray in police custody, Black Lives Matter is described as “a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society.”chOne student organization at MSU, the Black Student Alliance (BSA), has been active in holding rallies, organizing events, staging protests and advocating for the goals of the Black Lives Matter movement.

CIA hosting 'CIA Day' at Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center

Throughout the day, the CIA is holding its “CIA day” in Kellogg Center for the first time ever in the state of Michigan. The conference will last the entire day and students interested in a career in the field will be given exclusive information from CIA recruiters as well as a “glimpse at how the Agency works,” stated the press release. In addition, leaders from the local community will also be provided “insight” at how the Agency addresses matters of national security. However, the workshop is “specifically designed for students” and will showcase the basic logistics on how the Agency directorates function as well as how data on foreign intelligence is collected, analyzed, and relayed to US government officials for appropriate policy-making.

Students gather to paint The Rock in support of Paris

The tragic events that took place in Paris on Friday left several students feeling the need to share an expression of MSU support and remembrance of the lives lost.  Over 120 people were killed, in 6 different locations in the city.  The cold weather and late time on Friday night didn't stop a group of MSU students from gathering to paint The Rock on Farm Lane in solidarity and support of the city of Paris and its people.

Student groups rally for climate change awareness

With the first snowfall in Lansing descending onto campus, students advocating about climate change gathered in front of the MSU Auditorium to bring awareness to the issue and the various groups on campus involved with this issue. Organized by the newly created MSU branch of the Climate Reality Project, a non-profit climate change advocacy group founded by Al Gore, the rally today was held in honor of a 24 hour live stream of climate discussion around the globe titled Live Earth: 24 Hours of Reality. Alongside the live stream, the rally was also meant to bring awareness to the United Nations conference on climate change to be held in Paris, France between Nov.
