MSU trustees approve tuition hike, merger and new leadership at June 13 meeting

At its June 13 meeting held in Traverse City, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees approved a number of major leadership appointments and voted to raise tuition for the 2025-26 academic year. The trustees also backed a study that will assess the future of the aging IM West building, and heard heated public comment surrounding a controversial academic merger.

MSU faces backlash over 9% budget cuts amid transparency concerns, union faculty petition

Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz told faculty and staff Thursday that the school will reduce its general spending budget by 9% over two years, blaming rising healthcare costs, operational expenses, and declining state support. But the Union of Non-Tenure Track Faculty says those explanations lack transparency and don’t match the data it has—or hasn't—been shown.

MSU signs amicus brief in support of Harvard amid federal research cuts

Michigan State University joined 18 research universities in signing an amicus brief Monday in support of Harvard College and their recent legal battle with the Trump administration concerning two billion dollars in federal grants. As of May, researchers at MSU have suffered up to $82 million in research cuts.

As MSU alumni, College of Communication Arts and Sciences grads, former MSU student athletes and former MSU Athletics staff, Olivia and Darien Harris have had many important milestones on and around MSU’s campus. Now, Olivia and Darien Harris have embarked on a new milestone by founding Recharged Pilates, one of the only pilates studios in the area. The couple pride themselves and their company on its accessibility to the community and deep-rooted connection to Michigan State University.

More than 200 MSU students impacted by Trump travel ban

President Donald Trump signed a proclamation Wednesday evening that bans citizens from 12 countries from entering the U.S. and imposes heightened restrictions on seven others. The move is the Trump administration’s latest effort to tighten immigration rules, placing MSU international students and scholars in uncertain territory.

Recent MSU graduate Liam Richichi launches bid for East Lansing City Council

Recent Michigan State University graduate Liam Richichi is no stranger to politics. During his time on campus, he was active in MSU College Democrats — eventually serving as chapter president and leading its efforts during the 2024 election season. Richichi now works as the constituent services director for State Representative Jason Morgan. Now, the political theory and constitutional democracy graduate is taking on a new challenge: running for one of two open seats on the East Lansing City Council in the city’s Nov. 5 general election.

MSU advises international students to remain in the U.S.

The Office for International Students and Scholars at Michigan State University sent out an email earlier this week warning international students not to travel outside of the U.S. The decision follows reports that the U.S. Department of State has temporarily suspended visa interviews for international students intending to study in the United States.
