East Lansing is getting cold, fast. Here’s how out-of-state students are staying warm

East Lansing Moosejaw manager Collin Tarr said preparing for cold weather couldn't be more important. Very few pieces of clothing can "do everything you need them to do," he said. According to Tarr, a warm winter outfit consists of three parts for the body: a base layer like a t-shirt, a warm middle layer like a sweater or sweatshirt and a thermal winter jacket for an outer layer. If it’s rainy, snowy or windy, a fourth waterproof layer like a poncho or rain jacket can be helpful.

Sole finalist for MSU presidency 'weighing' decision

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz is weighing leaving his current position to become president of Michigan State University, according to a statement provided to The News & Observer. Guskiewicz is the sole remaining finalist after the other dropped out Wednesday evening.

MSU students say sirens, safety alerts can be triggering following campus shooting

The Feb. 13 campus shooting at Michigan State University impacted students and the community in so many ways; for most, the grief and shock they experienced created trauma that still lingers. Many students have realized that noises or other daily occurrences they previously didn't pay much attention to have become triggers, or anything that causes a person to relive past trauma.

MSU Broad Art Museum's 'The CORE' holds grand opening

The Broad Art Museum hosted the grand opening of the highly anticipated Center for Object Research and Engagement, or the CORE, on Friday. Unlike some of the museum's other exhibitions, which rotate every few years or so, the CORE provides a permanent space for over thousands of objects that the university has been accumulating as far back as 1945.

East Lansing Film Festival's opening night features documentaries, shorts ahead of week-long activities

The East Lansing Film Festival, or ELFF, has officially started and is taking place in Meridian Mall's Studio C! Celebration Theater until Nov. 16, marking the event's 26th anniversary. During the festival's opening night yesterday, community members filled the theater with complimentary popcorn and brochures explaining each film in hand, after walking a small red carpet to get inside the theater – a mirrored appreciation for the movie-watchers and their support for the independent films.

MSU groups hold food drive for student parents

The Spartan Food Security Council is partnering with Sparty’s Kind Kids to run a food drive for student parents and their families who are in the Student Parent Resource Center. The drive will start Nov. 13 and run through Nov. 15.
