Dr. Marsha Rappley is leaving her position as dean of MSU's College of Human Medicine, she announced Tuesday, according a report by MLive. Rappley has accepted a new position with Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., as vice president of for health sciences and chief executive officer of VCU Health System. Rappley accepts the position after serving as a faculty member at MSU since 1988 and acting as dean since 2006.
Ground was broken Wednesday on the construction of MSU's new Grand Rapids Research Center. The building is an $88.1 million, six-story, 162,800-square-foot facility that will include research program spaces and five core labs that will benefit the MSU College of Human medicine scientists and researchers. "We envision the MSU research building and Grand Rapids Innovation Park to be a gateway to the Medical Mile and a magnet attracting business in life sciences and growth in the biotechnology sectors," MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon told MSU Today. The new research facility will be located on the corner in Monroe Avenue in downtown Grand Rapids and is expected to be completed and opened late 2017.
