ELPD respond to motorcycle accident downtown Friday afternoon

A motorcycle clipped the side of a minivan on Friday evening after the rider lost control and fell off. The accident was east of the Grand River Avenue and Division Street intersection across from Bubble Island and The Peanut Barrel. "The rider of the motorcycle just has minor injuries, nothing life threatening at all, and nobody was injured in the van," East Lansing police Sgt. Chad Pride said.

Ingham County Clerk extends hours following marriage equality ruling

Earlier today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a historic ruling which allows same-sex couples to marry and ensured equal respect for their marriages across America. Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum issued a statement extending the office's hours today to implement marriage equality, adding that she will keep the office open until the last person is served.

Former MSU track star Leah O'Connor signs with Adidas

Former MSU track and cross country runner Leah O’Connor announced her post-collegiate running plans Thursday evening after advancing to the finals of the women’s 3,000 steeplechase at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. But after running her last ever race in an MSU uniform, the announcement didn’t come exactly how she pictured it. “They put me as an Adidas athlete in the results ... I was gonna do a whole picture thing tomorrow but I guess it’s not a secret,” O’Connor told reporters after the race.

Tobacco-free policy more educational than punitive

With the Board of Trustees decision last week to institute a new tobacco-free policy at MSU, a few aspects of the policy have yet to be ironed out before it is eventually implemented August of 2016. However, MSU spokesperson Jason Cody said the policy will be geared toward education rather than be punitive in nature.

City Council makes plans for MSU, townships to join Greater Lansing Taxi Authority

With all parties on board, it will make the process for cab drivers in the area to get registered shorter, but also eliminate issues of inconsistency such as cab drivers having licenses to operate in the city of East Lansing or Lansing, but not the other that have occurred in the past. “What you really need is one uniform set of rules for the whole region because that’s what the taxi market looks like. It’s regional not jurisdictional," said Triplett.
