Week in Review: July 24, 2015
The final candiates for the East Lansing City Council are in, although as of Friday at noon the candidates have four hours to withdraw from the race. Current East Lansing Mayer Nathan Triplett is trying again for mayor and the other candidates are Mark Meadows, a former councilmember, East Lansing resident and MSU professor Erik Altmaan, MSU graduate Shanna Draheim, MSU professor emeritus John Revitte, 2008 MSU graduate Steve Ross and 2007 MSU graduate Jermain Ruffin. Seven candidates have filed to run for three vacancies, and council members Kathleen Boyle and Diane Goddeeris will not be seeking reelection.

Service Road to be closed for construction this weekend
Starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, construction will begin on the storm water improvement project on Service Road, according to an email sent out by Infrastructure Planning and Facilities (IPF). Traffic flow will be maintained and regulated by flag men on this day.

Downtown tanning salon closes its doors
The vacant former location of The Tanning Company on 423 Albert Avenue has yet to be replaced by a new business, building owner Brad Ballein said Tuesday. The Tanning Company closed its doors for good on June 26 at 6 p.m., according to the company's Facebook page.
