58 MSU student athletes named Academic All-Big Ten

A total of 58 MSU student athletes were recognized Wednesday for earning Academic All-Big Ten Honors in winter sports. According to a press release from the Big Ten Conference, to be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The Big Ten honored a total of 780 student athletes, including 12 with perfect GPAs, four of which from MSU -- women's swimming and diving's Courtney Aycock, Rebecca Berman and Heidi Surdyk, and wrestling's Joe Johnson. Earlier on Tuesday, bombing attacks in Brussels, Belgium at its Zaventem airport and Maelbeek subway station killed 34 and injured a little under 200 as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. As Belgium, Europe and the United States respond to this latest act of terrorism, of which no group has claimed responsibility yet, concerns about the safety and security of family members and friends naturally abounds.
