University hosts 'Day After' event in response to election result

Wednesday night, students, faculty and community members gathered in the Business Complex for an event called “The Day After.” This event provided an inclusive space where members of the community could reflect on the election and voice their thoughts. The first hour of The Day After included asking a panel of alumni questions about where the country is headed and what can be done in response.

ASMSU president reaches out to students following election

The president of the Associated Students of Michigan State University, or ASMSU, Lorenzo Santavicca, reached out to undergraduate students via email and Twitter in an effort to let them know that he and ASMSU leadership are available to listen and empathize with students following Election Day.

Six MSU students nominated for highly competitive scholarships

Six MSU students have been nominated for the highly competitive Marshall Scholarship, Mitchell Scholarship and Rhodes Scholarship according to a Honors College press release. The nominees are Honors College undergraduate students Margaret Born, Rebecca Carlson, Eamon Devlin, Clara Lepard and Alana O’Mara and alumnus Joel Arnold.

It’s been a process eight months in the making. It started with a stunning upset loss to Middle Tennessee State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which blemished not only the resume of Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and his 2016 graduating class consisting of the likes of Denzel Valentine, Bryn Forbes, Matt Costello and Colby Wollenman.

Toxic masculinity ideology resonates with MSU students

Dealing with society’s expectation of what is masculine and what isn’t, has had effects on differnet MSU students. Doctoral student Mark Hsieh is an avid martial arts participant and hunter, but also loves music and is pursuing a doctorate in musical arts, all of which he didn’t choose based on whether it was masculine or not.

MSU cast and crew brings Shakespeare play to life

Eleven months ago, assistant theatre professor Deric McNish started working on an idea that would help bring William Shakespeare’s work to life. This week, that idea will be realized the opening day of ”The Tempest" on Nov. 10. The Shakespeare play will be put on in the Pasant Theatre at the Wharton Center and will be different from previous productions McNish, the director of the show, said.

Broad Art Museum hosts exhibit for the centenary of Easter Rising

“Now and in time to be, Wherever green is worn, Are changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born,” Irish poet W.B. Yeats wrote of the 1916 Easter Rising. The Easter Rising was a rebellion by Irish nationalists against British rule with the hope of establishing an independent nation. Though the uprising lasted only six days, it changed Ireland’s course for the 20th century.

Dantonio previews Rutgers, addresses team concerns

MSU head coach Mark Dantonio took the podium on Tuesday in what he described as a “broken record” as the team has yet to improve upon the things he has consistently talked about during the Spartans seven game losing streak. The offense against Illinois was only able to generate nine points in their first six possessions, all which found their way into Illinois territory.
