Beaming from ear to ear as her 12-year-old son, Gregg, cut the doughnut-laced ribbon signaling the grand opening of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Lansing Township, Annie Lewis waited patiently with hundreds of eager customers for the doors to open and the store's famous Hot Light, which indicates the creation of fresh doughnuts, to come on. The grand opening of the doughnut franchise's first Lansing-area store was chosen for a fund-raiser Lewis, an East Lansing resident, has organized.

Theta Delta Chi granted extension for repairs

After facing condemnation from East Lansing officials over the summer, the members of Theta Delta Chi were granted a one-month extension to finish repairs on their house.Members have been meeting since July to fix up the house, 139 Bailey St., after it was found in violation of East Lansing housing codes."They have been making excellent progress, however, there are still some more minor things to take care of," said Jean Golden, East Lansing deputy city manager.

Officials consider new $20M complex

A proposed $20 million development could bring new neighbors to the Northern Tier in the near future.On Wednesday, the East Lansing Planning Commission could approve a request from Gillespie Development & Management of East Lansing to construct The Beaumont, a development consisting of 448 apartments and town houses, office space and amenities.

Ads prompt protest of State News

Student organizations protesting The State News began a formal campaign against the newspaper Monday by passing out fliers detailing how to receive a refund for the $5 State News tax included with tuition.
