Bush twins speak for dad at Union

Joking and laughing with Republican supporters, Jenna and Barbara Bush said the characteristics that make President Bush a great dad also make him a great president. As hundreds of excited Students for Bush and College Republicans members from throughout the state greeted the twins at the Union on Wednesday, they made a case for their father's re-election. Many of President Bush's best qualities are reflected in his leadership in the Oval Office as well as at home, including being open-minded, down-to-earth and having a great sense of humor, Jenna Bush said.

GameDay made mistake coming to East Lansing

Big game this weekend. Yup. Notre Dame, prime-time TV, ESPN GameDay crew, under the lights. Mind you, the only reason Lee Corso and his cronies Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Fowler are making their miserable trek to Mid-Michigan is because they're afraid of Hurricane Ivan ruining a real game like LSU and Auburn or Florida and Tennessee. And they're coming for Notre Dame, not MSU.

Armed robberies still unsolved

Two men in their early 20s were victims of armed robbery in recent incidents near campus, East Lansing police officers said. Three men attacked a 22-year-old East Lansing man Tuesday, and another two men attempted to stab a 21-year-old on Albert Avenue near Collingwood Drive Aug.

ASMSU plans for exam monitoring program

ASMSU is looking to help professors administer exams in an effort to curb cheating and increase its student outreach. Vinayak Prasad, Academic Assembly External Vice chairperson, presented a plan to the Academic Assembly Policy Committee Tuesday night that would create a pilot program to proctor exams for large classes. He detailed the plan's initial groundwork which calls for about 15-20 total students in the program who would pass out exams and stay to monitor test takers.

Charity holds fashion show at Meridian Mall

The American Cancer Society is hosting their 2004 Fashion Extravaganza from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday at Younkers in the Meridian Mall. The event will benefit the cancer society's Capital Area Service Center and feature a fashion show, a silent auction and the opportunity to win prizes such as a quarter-carat diamond and a new car. Local personalities, including former MSU athletics director Clarence Underwood will be on hand, and the runway models include area cancer survivors. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased through Younkers in the Meridian Mall, 1982 W.

Students celebrate Mexican Independence Day

Students gathered Wednesday night at the rock on Farm Lane to celebrate Mexican Independence Day at the third-annual Diez y Sies de Septiembre Celebration. "It's a day to embrace your culture," apparel and textiles design junior Ricardo Leon said.
