This refers to the nuclear crisis in North Korea and the opinion page article by Jun Yang "South Korean student provides perspective on armed North Korea" (SN 2/17). I agree with his proposal to continue talks with North Korea, but I am disappointed to hear his logic for doing so.

Jones sets school record in tourney

Senior Tammy Jones set the school record in the 100-meter butterfly at the Big Ten Championships on Friday in Bloomington, Ind. Jones' time of 55.07 seconds was good for ninth place in the race. She also finished 11th in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 50.60 seconds Saturday. Freshman Danielle Williams placed 17th in the 3-meter diving competition and junior Courtney Ellabarger finished 23rd in the 100-meter breaststroke.

A flashing sword blade split a single flower Friday as part of a performance by Los Angeles artist Dan Kwong. The event, which took place at the Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbott Road, was called "From Inner Worlds to Outer Space: An evening of performance with Dan Kwong." Kwong blended narrative monologues with projected images, music and physical action to tell his story of growing up as an Asian American. "I was always looking for a way to combine life and art," Kwong said.

Injured team loses close match

An injured MSU gymnastics team (12-5) lost a close match to Illinois on Saturday, 194.200-193.275. The Spartans' strongest event was on the floor, with sophomore Chayla Hill placing first with a score of 9.850 and senior Jennifer Yarbrough tying for second with Illinois' Katie Wild and Kara Kapernekas, scoring 9.825. "I am pleased with my performance," Hill said.

MIDDAY: MSU women's basketball defeats Ohio State

The MSU women's basketball team won a thriller at Breslin Center on Sunday afternoon, defeating Ohio State 66-64. Three Spartans scored in double digits, led by senior guard Kristin Haynie with 19 and junior guard Lindsay Bowen with 16. Haynie sealed the team's win with a pair of free throws with six seconds left in the game, leaving the Spartans up by two.

Haynie finishing career with record stats
