The NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Committee has selected MSU and the Breslin Center to host first- and second-round games for the 2007 NCAA Women's Basketball Championships. "We're exited as a department to host the first and second rounds," MSU Director of Athletics Ron Mason said in a written statement.

Flag burning is part of our free speech

This letter is in response to Richard Ivans' letter, in which he states that flag burning is not an acceptable form of free speech ("Flag burning isn't accepted speech" SN 6/30). I would like to disagree, and point out that the reason that flag burning is an acceptable form of protest, for me, is in Chief Justice William H.

Real research

MSU is known for many things. Football, basketball, agriculture, the Red Cedar River and, of course, the generalized social behavior of its students.

MICHIGAN

Mich. 1st to offer e-mail protection for children

For parents like Detroit attorney Talia Goetting, who worry about the e-mails their children are receiving, there is a new program in place to ease their fears. Michigan is the first state to create a registry to prevent certain spam e-mails from reaching a minor's online account. "I'd hate for (my daughter) to open something up at such a young age and be shocked," Goetting said, adding her 7-year-old daughter recently started e-mailing people. In 2004, the Michigan Children's Protection Registry Act was created to prohibit people from sending e-mail to children about products or services that are illegal for minors.

Behind the pulpit

The Christian Reformed Church is moving slowly toward incorporating female religious delegates in its parishes as other religions reaffirm women's abilities to lead in the home or in front of a congregation. In December 1876, the student residents of Saints' Rest had left for winter break, and the only people in the building were a group of workmen doing grouting in the basement.

Cole's latest CD full of unique R&B sounds

Keyshia Cole differentiates herself from the rest of the R&B pack with the release of "The Way It Is," which features stunning vocals from Cole and a little production help from Kanye West. Cole's R&B sound isn't that different than others in her genre, but it's her dominating voice that makes her CD stand out.

Police should not be blindly believed

I could not believe what I read in the article concerning the arrest of Cortney Woycik ("Cloudy night in the city" SN 6/30). First of all, the level of intelligence between students and the East Lansing Police Department is clearly shown from the statements they make.

Trust fund

In the wake of the Enron scandal, it's tough to trust the accounting of any big organization. Thankfully, the Residence Halls Association has proven itself trustworthy.

Serious review

Cortney Woycik was one of the 43 people arrested during the April 2-3 disturbances, during which several thousand people flooded the East Lansing streets.
