Absence of tickets will reduce fan base

In some ways I understand why the athletic ticket office decided to eliminate the use of vouchers. This way you have no ticket to lose but, more importantly, you have no ticket to sell. I think we all know that some students buy tickets to attend a couple of big games, but also to make profit.

Spartans head out West for three games this weekend

The MSU field hockey team looks to improve on their 1-1 record with a trip out West this weekend where they will face California, Pacific and Stanford in four days. After earning a win to start the season, the Spartans were shutout by Duke in their second game.

MSU asked to shut off power over weekend

Physical Plant officials are asking on-campus students, faculty and staff to turn off any unnecessary electrical devices during the upcoming holiday weekend. Plant employees will be connecting a new high-pressure steam line this weekend as part of a continuing expansion.

Cindy Sheehan's heart is in the right place. I'm just not sure where her head is. Seriously though, the well-intentioned but inarticulate founder of Gold Star Families for Peace is demanding immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan.

No spirits in suites on 1st game day

MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon decided Wednesday that Spartan Stadium will be dry when the Spartans face Kent State on Saturday. Since mid-August many have speculated that alcohol might be served in the new addition.

Local events show flaws of Patriot Act

It's a scary day in America when a group comes under FBI scrutiny because of peaceful protests ("Local terrorist activity suspected," SN 8/30). I agree with Direct Action's Tommy Simon: The USA Patriot Act is being used to squelch freedom of speech.

Officers with MSU's Residence Halls Association are preparing for this upcoming school year in a new, larger office near their old location. Kevin Newman, RHA president, said he is excited about the new space, G-7 in the basement of Holden Hall.

Local groups work to raise money for hurricane victims

With images of Hurricane Katrina all over the news, local residents and Michigan-based organizations have been reaching out to help survivors of the deadly storm. Sarah Clevenger, community relations coordinator for American Red Cross, Mid-Michigan chapter said although there is still a great need for more monetary donations, there has been a noticeable response in the Lansing area. "We have had a huge outpour of support locally," Clevenger said. So far, the Red Cross has set up 240 shelters throughout the South to house more than 70,000 evacuees, Clevenger said.
