This summer, the East Lansing police are riding about 1,600 pounds of fury while on patrol. The East Lansing Police Department put its two new Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycles to work in May, and members of the unit said they've received positive reactions from the community. Women's health advance should come before morals

I couldn't have agreed more with the editorial "Vaccine doesn't promote promiscuity" (SN 6/13). Plain and simple, a vaccine that prevents cervical cancer is a medical breakthrough — the first ever of its kind and an important advance in women's health.

Butting heads on helmets

Personal safety and rising insurance rates have caused some concern with the introduction of a bill that could repeal Michigan's motorcycle helmet law. Michigan law requires riders to wear helmets, but that could be changed by the bill, allowing motorcyclists to choose whether or not to wear a helmet.

Break beats intertwined with vocal layouts and scratches began to emerge from the speakers attached to Technics and Pioneer turntables, as DJ Addverse, also known as Jaime Wilkins, demonstrated the art of disc jockeying, or DJing. As a female DJ, Addverse began her music career making warm-up tapes for her basketball and volleyball teams in high school, which eventually led her to break dancing and DJing. It was in the shower that I first heard singer/songwriter Regina Spektor's "Fidelity" on the radio.

City to provide houses for families

The East Lansing City Council amended the Community Development Block Grant plan to allow the purchase of two homes, which would be marketed to families with low-to-moderate incomes, during its regular work session Tuesday. "We amended the 2005 action plan," said Heather Pope, a community development specialist. Community Development Block Grants allow cities to use a wide range of resources to help fund certain development needs. As Alberto comes, don't forget last year's havoc

Stop watching "Laguna Beach." Please turn off "My Super Sweet 16." If you're going to watch any reality television — and by reality, I obviously mean "loosely scripted" — turn to "The Real World." It didn't happen on purpose, but somehow MTV got socially lucky.
