“Traditionally, gay bars have been the only safe spaces we’ve had together,” Wendling said. "So this gives us another opportunity for people who might not be interested in going to bars.”
While Styles was accepting his award, a lot of the support appeared to fall away. During his acceptance speech, Styles said “this doesn’t happen to people like me very often.” Yalowitz said this comment came off as out of touch because Styles is a white cisgender man, the premiere type of person to win a Grammy.
The Multicultural Greek Council, or MGC and the National Pan-Hellenic Council, or NPHC, two of the four Greek councils present at MSU, are dedicated to providing a sense of community and a safe haven to underrepresented groups while also giving back to the community.

The event, hosted in the Union Ballroom, included open discussions about being a member of the Black community at MSU. Various activities were also offered to students, like painting, friend speed dating, jubilee discussion and a hustle room.
College is typically referred to as “the best four years of your life." Between living in the same city as some of your best friends, going to parties on the weekend and juggling a schedule of classes, it’s easy to overlook the actual best part of college: when your parents come to visit.
Michigan State University is a predominantly white institution, or PWI, which means Black students across campus might find it hard to find an organization that they feel represents them.
“They’ve gotten to where they are by working twice as hard,” human biology senior Tahnia Quadri said. “To be told that it’s not real media and Hollywood is so heartbreaking to hear, because this is the first time that marginalized communities are being represented.”
Lansing Roller Derby is back for a regular season, after a three-year hiatus from normal gameplay. “(The team) is genuinely one of the most welcoming and inclusive communities I’ve ever been a part of,” Hume said.
“It’s not a secret that the Oscars predominantly lack people of color,” Mosley said. “I think that’s not something they’re trying to hide. Obviously, some steps are being taken to diversify the Oscars, but we clearly have a long way to go, based just on the international nominations.”
MSU’s University Council, a legislature of faculty and student representatives, passed a non-binding resolution Tuesday demanding the university center ethics and social-consciousness in its investments.
