MSU student-athletes named Academic All-Big Ten honorees

62 MSU student-athletes were named Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2017 winter sports season, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. To be eligible for this honor, each student-athlete must earn a varsity letter, be in at least their second academic year at a Big Ten university and obtain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. MSU swimming and diving sophomores Gabe Whitaker, Courtney Aycock and Heidi Surdyk were three of 12 conference student-athletes who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. PREVIEW: MSU hockey heads to Big Ten Tournament against Buckeyes

After finishing the regular season with a 7-23-4 overall record (3-14-3-1 Big Ten), the MSU hockey team begins the postseason a sixth seed in the Big Ten Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament Thursday night in what will be the fifth matchup this season between the two teams.
