'Sopranos' fifth season delayed, fan wants more

Back to school means the early and midnight cram sessions. Unfortunately, my Sunday night ritual, which would have been watching new episodes of "The Sopranos," will not be a staple this semester. All of my anxious waiting for the new season to begin would finally be over except for the fact all of my hopes have just been dashed - the new season is not beginning until March.

Area stores work to give students array of styles

Kinesiology sophomore Matt Lewis knows where to find shirts with funny sayings plastered on them, and it's not from the local mall. Students looking to update their closets with fresh styles of clothing for fall don't have to venture far from campus. Right across the street from campus are several stores that sell anything from MSU boxer shorts to Grateful Dead T-shirts. "A lot of the brands I had never seen before," Lewis said, describing what he calls the underground appeal of clothing found at Blue In The Face, 213 E Grand River Ave.

Technology is getting ridiculous

Usually I don't watch "The Oprah Winfrey Show." It's not that I dislike the show or anything, but it's just not on my must-see TV list. But a few weeks ago "Oprah's Favorite Things for Spring" caught my eye. After the segment on neon pink flowered flip-flops, Oprah introduced a new gadget to her millions of viewers. It was the Apple iPod - a small mp3 player that stores thousands of songs.

Decorate dorms with easy, fun, cheap items

For college students, a 12-by-12 space serves as their kitchen, living room and bedroom all-in-one. Not a whole lot of room for furniture, let alone two people. And Welcome Weekend can sometimes be spent looking for decorations to turn their bland dorm room into the space of their dreams - and on a small budget, too. Drafting Professor Mary-Margaret Munski says in order to get the most out of their dorm room, students should focus on space-saving techniques. "Any time you have a small space and a lot of clutter, it makes your space look smaller," she said. Munski suggests buying crates or storage shelves that can be stacked to save space and are useful for storing anything such as books, food, clothes or shoes. Having a "design conference" with roommates also can make decorating easier, Munski said. "Sit down with your roommate, come up with a theme, budget out some money and go shopping," she said.

Winston Glass, a telecommunication, information studies and media senior, said he has two mp3 players. "If I go on a trip, I pack light, I take my laptop and this," Glass said pointing to the Apple iPod attached to the waist of his blue jeans. A MSU Computer Store employee, Glass said he sees lots of students coming in wanting to buy the small handheld music player. Most mp3 players cost $99 for about 64 megabytes of memory.
