Many professors are opting to skip the paper and ink and use electronic resources to provide syllabi to students this fall.Being able to access a class syllabus online is both cost-effective and time-saving for the university and students.

Big man on campus - try big virus on campus. A veritable worldwide epidemic of computer viruses has wiggled its way to MSU just in time for the first week of classes. The worms are hitting campus at a time when students, faculty and staff are especially in need of computer and Internet access.

When authorities and psychologists get the opportunity to examine the thoughts of a criminal mastermind, they normally jump at the chance. That's why the FBI should allow the release of the papers of Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber. Kaczynski recently asked the FBI to release personal papers, a bomb and other materials seized in his arrest.

There's good news if you're a university official or coach with a conscience. There could be a job offer coming your way in the near future. This summer there has been a rash of poor conduct from coaches and presidents around the nation.

Celebrities are auditioning for a new role in the Golden State - governor of California. Since the Gray Davis recall in California, celebrities ranging from Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt to the Terminator himself Arnold Schwarzenegger have been stepping forward and announcing plans for candidacy. Having a celebrity in a political position might not be a bad idea and should be taken seriously.

When MSU President M. Peter McPherson's term began in 1994, one of his six major goals for the university was to increase diversity.

Contemporary class

The University of Michigan is still making headlines this summer. With the Chris Webber case over with and the affirmative action policy lawsuits out of the way, there is now a "traditional family organization" that wants to get rid of one of the university's offered courses. The course is an English class titled "How to Be Gay: Homosexuality and Initiation," and the American Family Association of Michigan wants the class banned because, to organization President Gary Glenn, the class admits homosexuality is a learned behavior. The class is supposed to help homosexuals identify with themselves, said David Halperin, the class instructor.

It seems if a person does something commendable in today's world, the issue is rarely covered. Sure, there might be a 10-second spot on the 6 o'clock news, but that's about it.But if a person does something against the law or morally wrong in society's eyes, we can't get enough of it.This is where the Kobe Bryant case comes into play.
