Izzone: Remember hoops team is what matters most

Thursday's game against Michigan was the first real basketball game I've been to this year since the new Izzone rules were implemented. It's not as if I didn't want to go to any regular-season games before that, I just couldn't - prior commitments to this thing you're reading. I very well knew I could not attend many games this year.

COMMENTARY

Fundamentalist agenda seeking to undermine women's status

America is in the midst of a "culture war." However, our myopic focus on peripheral issues such as abortion or gay rights masks the root cause of the conflict, which is fundamentalist Christianity. I doubt the real agenda fundamentalists have for our country would garner support from most Americans.

Marine's girlfriend shares experiences of overseas relationship

Imagine the life of a Marine's girlfriend. We'll call her the scared bystander. She stays online for hours e-mailing her brave boyfriend, answers every "out of area" phone call hoping it's him and practically lives at the post office, sending him packages and envelopes marked "sealed with a kiss." His picture is framed on a shelf in her dorm room, and every time she opens her wallet she sees him in full uniform next to her debit card. That she is me.

Pistons hurting due to loss of Mehmet Okur

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. For the Detroit Pistons, the darlings of the NBA just seven months ago, wins and the championship effort that was prevalent last season have been few and far between. Of all the things one could point to as causing a problem this year - the brawl, lack of effort, complacency, and so on and so forth, are all secondary to one thing. The loss of Mehmet Okur. It is beyond obvious that losing Memo and his multitude of abilities has hurt the World Champions in all aspects of the game. Now with the Utah Jazz, Okur has averaged 11.7 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game.
