1,000 days (and counting) of rivalry domination

A lot has happened in the last 1,000 days. Three different national champions have been crowned in college basketball, the first non-white U.S. president has taken office and three separate “Twilight” movies have been released, making obsessive girls around the globe decide between Team Edward or Team Jacob. But not once, in all that time, has Michigan defeated MSU in football or men’s basketball, the two biggest college sports in the country.

Former MSU star Richardson hosts annual charity golf outing

In Jason Richardson’s nine years in the NBA, he has played for three different teams and three different cities. At every stop along the way, Richardson has been involved in the community, donating his time and money to his own charity, the Jason Richardson Foundation, and others in those cities. But when the former MSU standout returned to Michigan for the annual Jason Richardson Golf Classic on Wednesday, which benefited the United Way of Saginaw County, he said he hasn’t forgotten where he came from.

Morgan to play for Washington in summer league

After going undrafted in Thursday’s 2010 NBA Draft, former MSU forward Raymar Morgan was invited to play for the Washington Wizards in the NBA Summer League. The Wizards will play five games in the league, which runs July 9-18 in Las Vegas. Morgan likely will get the chance to play with John Wall, whom the Wizards picked No. 1 overall in the draft.

Last Friday, Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany announced Nebraska as the 12th member of the conference, and since then, he and other conference officials have talked a lot about how well Nebraska fits the Big Ten profile. Indianapolis — The reporters cleared. Raymar Morgan took a deep breath, and with an expressionless look, took off his jersey. The word “State” no longer was present across his chest. He took off his shoes and placed them to the side. Still, no expression. It wasn’t supposed to end like this.

Despite loss, future bright for Spartans

Even without their best player, and their best shooter and one of their best post players not anywhere near 100 percent, the Spartans were able to storm through the adversity and reach the Final Four.

Indianapolis – A span of about 10 minutes in the MSU and Butler men’s basketball teams’ game Saturday night at Lucas Oil Stadium was a perfect microcosm of the two teams’ philosophies that they’ve built their programs on.

MSU falls to Butler, 52-50

Indianapolis — The MSU men’s basketball team’s unlikely Final Four run came to an end Saturday night in Indianapolis as the Spartans couldn’t manage a late comeback against Butler and fell, 52-50.
