Even through an emotional night for the women’s volleyball team, the No. 8 Spartans were still able to dominate the Hoosiers through three sets and take the win on their final home game at Jenison Fieldhouse of the season.
Cathy George earned his career win No. 600 as a volleyball coach earlier this year, but now, she’s the winningest coach in MSU volleyball history after the Spartans beat Northwestern Saturday night, 3-0, giving her win No. 251 as the head coach of MSU volleyball.
Three regular season home games remain at Jenison Field House this season. For the seniors of the No. 8 volleyball team, the time is winding down as their career as a Spartan slowly comes to an end.
For the second time this year, the volleyball team lost to No. 1 Penn State in four sets. The Spartans overall record against the historically dominant Penn State is 7-44.
The No. 10 MSU volleyball team went 1-1 over the weekend, losing to No. 7 Nebraska on Friday and beating Iowa on Saturday.
In a fighting battle, U-M took the second set while holding the lead the majority of the time. After the third set, the Spartans kept U-M from rallying back to win the match.
After a weekend filled with mostly Spartan victories, here is the roundup for the week.
“It’s just Big Ten volleyball,” head coach Cathy George said. “If you’re going to do anything in this league, you’re going to have to beat a lot of top ten teams. I felt good that we were able to beat Wisconsin two times this year already and even though it’s weird to have it so close, back-to-back.”
The Spartans get their third straight sweep this weekend after beating Maryland on Friday and Ohio State on Saturday. These victories make the team 4-0 in Big Ten Conference play. This is the team’s tenth sweep in overall play making their record 11-2.
As MSU women’s volleyball gets ready to kick off their first Big Ten match this season on Friday, a pair of sisters get ready to watch their schools face off for the first time. Redshirt junior outside hitter Maddie Haggerty and her sister sophomore outside hitter Molly Haggerty who plays Wisconsin will watch their schools compete against each for the first time in their collegiate careers.
For the typical college freshman just entering, already having a friend in the same boat as you can go a long way towards facilitating the transition to the classroom. For freshmen MSU volleyball players Jamye Cox and Meredith Norris, it facilitates their transition to the court.
The MSU Volleyball team cancelled their matchup today against the Florida Gators in Gainesville due to the threat of Hurricane Irma.
The MSU Women’s Volleyball team swept through the entire Auto Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational this weekend, defeating San Diego State, Marshall, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Spartans won every set in each game due to the exceptional play of three seniors.
Volleyball head coach Cathy George earned her 600th career win as a coach after defeating San Diego State earlier today. Her overall record is now at 600-390 ranking her as the 20th for total wins in the NCAA Division I volleyball and currently is ranked in the top 80 coaches all-time with her career winning percentage at .607.
The Spartans, who are one of eight Big Ten teams ranked, return four starters plus a libero for the 2017 season.

For one last time as a Spartan, Allyssah Fitterer of MSU volleyball and Joe Cox of MSU hockey earned an accolade for their stellar senior seasons.
For 10 days, MSU volleyball is headed overseas for its Foreign Tour. The Spartans will be visiting Venice, Rome and other cities as they will also compete against four teams.
