Coming off a series sweep against Bowling Green — the team’s third series sweep of the season — the Spartans (10-5-1, 6-4-0 CCHA) are playing with a lot of confidence and are focused on playing Michigan this weekend.

In the battle for the Mariucci-Bessone Trophy — named after Bessone and legendary Minnesota coach John Mariucci — the No. 20 Spartans turned the tables on No. 3 Minnesota and earned a 4-3 win Friday and a 4-4 tie Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.

As the MSU hockey team prepares to take on No. 5 ranked Western Michigan, being a mentally tough opponent is just as important as being physically tough.
