Where to put the Big Ten Championship

When Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany welcomed Nebraska as the conference’s 12th member June 11, he also said a conference championship game soon would be in the works. The game would not be played until the 2011 season, as Nebraska doesn’t officially join the conference until then, but as possible locations for the game are being discussed, here are my top five options for the Big Ten Championship.

NCAA football video game makes minor improvements

College football fans still have a little less than two months before the 2010 season kicks off. As the first game draws closer, the excitement becomes increasingly more difficult to contain. Fortunately, for those of us who can’t wait for some college football action, EA Sports NCAA Football 11 should adequately fill the void in the meantime.

Tickets on sale this weekend for Florida Atlantic football game

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, tickets for the MSU football game against Florida Atlantic at 12 p.m. Sept. 11 at Ford Field will be on sale for the general public. Because the game is an away game, only MSU students who have bought season admission can buy tickets. Students are limited to buying three tickets and must pick them up at the visiting team’s will call on game day using two forms of ID and an e-mail confirmation.

Jones and Rijpma named MSU Athletes of the Year

Recognized for their excellence on the playing field last season, MSU football linebacker Greg Jones and field hockey midfielder Floor Rijpma were named the George Alderton Male and Female Athletes of the Year, MSU announced Monday. The award is given to the top male and female Spartan athlete at the end of each year.

Quarterbacks, wide receivers shine in Spring Game

After a month of practices, MSU football fans finally got to see a glimpse of their favorite team in the Spring Game on Saturday at Spartan Stadium. And if the scrimmage is a preview of next season, it should be an exciting one at the very least.

Cornerbacks Adams, Rucker lead secondary

The MSU football team hope its found a winning combination at the cornerback spot this season with senior Chris L. Rucker, the team’s leader last season in pass breakups, and sophomore Johnny Adams expected to contend for starting roles.

Dell, Cunningham shine in Spring Game

Mark Dell and B.J. Cunningham’s roles appeared to be in question for the season, but their 171 combined receiving yards helped the Green team to a 17-10 victory in the Spring Game and showed they can add to the receiver group.

Nichol making WR move with ease

Last season, as junior Keith Nichol played backup to fellow junior Kirk Cousins at quarterback, he stressed that winning games was the most important thing for him. This spring, after making the switch to receiver, his priorities haven’t changed.
