The debate over climate change has shifted several times during its 30-year-span, but the fundamental question has, for the most part, remained the same. It began in the 1970s, a negative shift in global temperature supposedly caused by aerosols. The 1990s saw the carbon levels of the Antarctic ice cores properly analyzed, and the long-term trend was seen to be toward warming, instead of cooling. Unlike global cooling, however, the warming trend was able to be conclusively shown and has produced dramatic results. The debate has now shifted once again; with outright denial no longer an option, global warming has been accepted as fact, and its causes are instead under scrutiny.

While Saturday’s late-game collapse at Spartan Stadium left fans with an empty feeling, local police said Monday that jails were full with hearty partiers this past weekend. East Lansing’s jail was at capacity for most of the day Saturday and the early morning hours Sunday, housing about 50 people, East Lansing police Lt. Kevin Daley said. Here are the rest arrest numbers from Saturday night, which produced mixed results for campus and city police.

Two unknown suspects entered the room of an 18-year-old Bryan Hall resident Thursday, punched him in the face and stole his laptop, according to MSU police. The victim told police he was in his dorm at about 7:10 p.m. when two unknown men entered his room. One suspect proceeded to punch the victim in the face while the other pulled the victim’s shirt over his head and stole his laptop. The suspects fled with the computer, which was tossed into nearby bushes and recovered after the victim chased the suspects.

They don’t understand it, either. Another Saturday and another win just out of reach for the Spartan football team, this one more painful than the rest because it came at the hands of their biggest rival. Following the game, junior quarterback Brian Hoyer was at a loss for words. He doesn’t know why his team keeps coming so close, only to fall short.
