Michigan State alumni, faculty and parents flooded campus on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, to welcome the students back for the first time since the shooting that took place on campus six days prior. Offering snacks, necessities and free hugs, volunteers wanted to transform the campus and make sure students felt comfortable upon their return, "I wanted to be here to make sure that they knew they were supported and loved," said Vicki Harris, a professor at Albion College who's husband works for the university, "and that I was here to give out a 'mom hug' and do whatever I could to help them try to manage this tragedy the best that they could."
