Protesters gather outside GRPD following release of footage from the killing of Patrick Lyoya by a police officer – April 13, 2022

Patrick Lyoya, a 26-year-old Black man, was fatally shot by a white police officer in Grand Rapids during a traffic stop on April 4. On Wednesday, video footage of the incident was released and protesters took to the streets of Grand Rapids in response.


The investigation of the shooting is currently pending through a third party, the Michigan State Police Department, as required by a policy put in place by the City Commission.
