video MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center offers opportunities for students to reduce waste The Climate of our Campus is a three-part series on going green at MSU. Throughout this series, we explore resources, concerns, and advice that the Michigan State campus and community have to offer for the future of a better planet. In part two of a trilogy on going green at MSU, The Surplus Store and Recycling center share their processes to decrease the quantity of university materials disposed of in landfills. The MSU community can find just about any reused item imaginable from the Surplus Store. For those items that cannot be reused, they go through the Recycling Center where around 5 and a half million pounds of material are annually processed. MSU students can take action to reduce waste by taking part in the facilities’ programs such as Student Upcycle Fridays or just by simply reducing, reusing and recycling. These practices ultimately benefit the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change by reducing harmful pollutants.
