The Lansing community gathered for a political rally on July 28, 2026 at The Fledge in Lansing, Mich., for Michigan senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. In partnership and support, several other Michigan and U.S. political figures joined him, including Michigan seventh district congressional candidate William Lawrence, Mich. state representative Emily Dievendorf, Lansing City Councilmember Trini Pehlivanoglu, Georgia state representative Ruwa Romman, Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost and national director of the Working Families Party Maurice Mitchell.

Mich. seventh congressional district candidate William Lawrence joined El-Sayed after spending the day walking nearly 12 miles across Lansing as part of canvassing efforts. Along the way, he stopped at several local establishments, such as Sycamore Townhomes, Lansing Empowerment Center and the Eastside Community Action Center (ECAC). Along the way, his team uplifted and amplified the voices of local organizations from the South side, through Rio Town and down the East side. While at the ECAC, Lawrence spoke with Pastor Stan Parker about recent issues they've faced, such as 20% of their students unenrolling in the past two years due to high rent and housing relocation in the area.

At the rally, representatives encouraged voters to take action by supporting El-Sayed's and Lawrence's campaigns in any way they can, and declared their own support for issues like affordable healthcare, housing, food security, environmental justice and more.

"Between now and election day, we are going to knock on every single door. We're going to call every single friend. We're going to put every bit of our money, our time, our testimony, into ensuring that Will Lawrence and Abdul El-Sayed make it across the finish line on election day," exhorted Maurice Mitchell, national director of the Working Families Party.

Many speakers emphasized that community action is especially needed for this race due to the large amount of money being poured into campaigns smearing El-Sayed and Lawrence by AIPAC and other dark money organizations. According to the AIPAC website, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is "leading the political fight to keep Congress pro-Israel," and aims to "encourage and persuade the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel."
