The Hunt for Michigan’s most sought-after fish

The lake sturgeon is a threatened species in Michigan and the state has tight restrictions on harvesting the fish. However, the DNR allows six sturgeon to be caught on Black Lake each year. The season begins at 8 a.m. on a specified day and ends when the six fish have been caught. It typically only lasts around an hour, and hundreds take to the ice in hopes of spearing one of the ancient creatures. This year's season was cancelled due to a lack of ice cover on Black Lake, so here's a look back on last year.
