Stewart currently attends Portage Central high school, where he hit .333 with three triples and two home runs as a junior. The 6-foot-4 senior is rated as the No. 2 outfielder and No. 11 overall player in Michigan.

"We’re always looking for athletes," Boss said.  "You have the opportunity to have interchangeable parts and move some guys around.  With that in mind, the possibility of losing a couple guys to the draft this or next year kind of led us to recruiting guys like Joe Stewart, he’s caught before, he can play the outfield or the infield."
