After 10 years of traveling the globe, Michael Doherty came back to his hometown of Lansing to found DEFYE, a new clothing label.

DEFYE stands for Define Your own Existence, and Doherty has sought to do that both in how he lives his life and runs his company. Whether it be the quest for truth or struggling through the challenges of life, each piece of clothing has a concept behind it.

Doherty is selling DEFYE in Meridian Mall, 1982 W. Grand River Ave., in Okemos, until Jan. 1, and hopes to expand his enterprise to nationwide stores, such as The Buckle.
