Michigan State graduate offensive lineman Nick Sharpe will continue his season without criminal charges after the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office declined to pursue the case following an 11-week investigation, The Detroit News reported Wednesday.
The investigation centered on an alleged sexual assault at Sharpe’s East Lansing apartment on July 17. The woman who alleged the charge remained anonymous throughout the investigation.
During an interview with police, the woman said the two began kissing once she got to his room, and Sharpe touched her genitals despite her asking him to stop. She said he only stopped once she began performing oral sex on him, something she told police she agreed to out of nervousness.
Sharpe said that the encounter was consensual.
According to a supplemental police report, the prosecutor’s office made its decision on Oct. 7.
The 6-foot-2, 351-pound lineman continued playing while the investigation was underway. Sharpe is in his sixth season of college football and has started all six games for the Spartans so far. According to Pro Football Focus, Sharpe has been graded as one of MSU’s top five offensive players in two of its last three games.
