Michigan State University is investigating a “potential credential compromise” which led the school to ask all students, faculty and staff to change their passwords last week.
In an email sent to The State News, Spokesperson Amber McCann said MSU "recently became aware of suspicious cyber activity and immediately began investigating the matter."
McCann said the cyber event didn’t “indicate a successful compromise” of the university’s active directory. The cyber event was focused on accessing user login information.
“There is also no evidence that other MSU data was accessed, changed or stolen, and the university's security measures continue to function as designed,” McCann said.
On Oct. 1, MSU IT asked all community members to change their passwords to at least 15 characters “out of an abundance of caution," as the email to students read.
