“Cam, unfortunately, is going to be done for the year,” Fitzgerald said. “Obviously, we’re disappointed for him. He’s been absolutely outstanding. I was just talking as we walked off the field. His attitude was terrific, ready to attack whatever direction things are going to go as we move forward, but it’s a next-man-up mentality.”

The UConn transfer took a 23-yard screen pass down the left sideline on Saturday before a Nebraska defender lurched at his knee to complete the tackle. Edwards immediately fell to the ground before he was carted to the locker room. 

The Spartans’ rushing attack struggled without Edwards, averaging just 1.2 yards per carry. His absence left a significant void in MSU's offense, forcing other backs to step up to replicate his production. MSU will look to senior Jaziun Patterson and sophomore Marvis Parrish to take those strides.

Edwards ranked seventh in the Big Ten in rushing yards and fifth in carries, proving his bell-cow ability to lead the Spartans' offense. Last season at UConn, he accumulated 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. He entered East Lansing as one of the team's top transfer additions and lived up to those expectations through the first three weeks.

MSU looks to return to its disciplined, hard-nosed style of play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Wisconsin.
