St. Patrick's Day is a major celebration after students survive the first week back from spring break. Though, choosing what to wear can be a bit tricky. Given that MSU’s colors are green and white most students should already possess everything they need to craft the perfect outfit without breaking the bank. This style guide will take you through the fashion dos and don’ts of the holiday.
March often brings unpredictable weather; although, typically, it's a safe bet that it will be snowing. Creating a warm base will keep you comfortable and spirited. Look for solid color long sleeves, like dark green or white, that can double as a top and an undershirt. These pair great with a pair of jeans or even a denim skirt if blessed with warm weather.
In recent years a popular trend has been patchwork sweatshirts and baby tees with St. Patrick's Day themed sayings on them, but recent trends have shown more bedazzled shirts. The upside of both of these styles is that they are extremely easy to craft yourself, which makes them customizable your taste. Throwing one on over a base long sleeve will keep you stylish and warm.
During the colder months it can be painful putting on a jacket over your perfectly crafted outfit, but it doesn’t have to be. Throwing on an oversized leather jacket or even a white puffer can be the finishing touch to keep you warm. Recent trends have brought back fur coats, which makes for another great, stylish option.
Any sort of denim is always a safe bet when it comes to picking the perfect outfit, solely because it is consistently a staple. Any color of jeans will complement the green and white base colors that are incorporated into the rest of the look. Although it can be considered taboo to wear white denim during the colder parts of the year, these can be paired really well with darker tops.
Matching sets are currently at the peak of their popularity and now is the perfect time to break out the one you have been saving for football season. Velour tracksuits are slowly making a way into the trend cycle due to the warming weather, but striped, green casual sets are also a great choice. Any color would surely work as long as it is paired with the right accessories.
As always, the accessories are what make or break the outfit, making them the most important part. This is such a great holiday to push the boundaries and go all out because everyone else will be following suit. Some common things that are seen yearly include green wigs, clear purses filled with Lucky Charms cereal, green necklace beads, trucker hats and shamrock sunglasses. This is the most important step to separate this from a casual tailgating outfit.
Regardless of what you have in your closet, MSU gear is always a safe choice when finding the perfect St. Patrick’s Day outfit.
