Michigan State senior gymnast Sage Kellerman was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The honor followed her impressive performance in the Spartans’ road win over Michigan. Kellerman shared the weekly award with UCLA’s Ciena Alipio.
The recognition is Kellerman’s first Specialist of the Week honor this season and the seventh of her career. It also marks Michigan State’s first Big Ten weekly award of 2026.
The Croswell, Michigan, native played a vital role in Michigan State’s 197.525–197.425 victory over then-No. 10 Michigan on Feb. 1 at the Crisler Center. The win marked the Spartans’ highest team score of the season and their first Big Ten victory, making it a significant milestone early in conference play.
Kellerman led both the vault and uneven bars lineups, helping Michigan State achieve season-high event totals of 49.425 on vault and 49.275 on bars. She recorded a season-high 9.975 on vault and tied her season-high with a 9.925 on bars, winning both event titles. Her performances were crucial in a meet that came down to the final rotation.
Through her steady performances on the uneven bars, Kellerman has established herself as one of the top specialists in the conference. She currently ranks No. 5 in the Big Ten and No. 15 nationally in this event, placing her among the best performers in the NCAA.
Michigan State hopes to keep up its momentum as it travels to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions on Sunday, Feb. 8. The meet is set for 2 p.m. at Rec Hall and will stream on Big Ten Plus.
