I’ll have what she's having--a showing of one of the most classic romantic comedies. On Oct. 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the University Activities Board hosted "When Scrapbooks Met Frames" in the Union Ballroom. The event featured crafts, trail mix making, and a screening of the classic movie "When Harry Met Sally."

"I just love the 'When Harry Met Sally,' especially during the fall, it’s the most classic, perfect movie for that time," events coordinator and nursing sophomore Sophia Ramirez said. "I saw the scrapbook frames idea when scrolling through Pinterest. I thought it would be a really cute idea to put two and two together."

This event brought together students from all over campus to take part in some scrapbook frame crafting to kick off the holiday weekend. This allowed students to decompress in between classes and participate in small activities. They also had a raffle where one lucky attendee could win an Owala water bottle.

"The scrapbook making has been my favorite part of this event," kinesiology senior Charli Marroquin said. "We literally have been talking and making it, it’s fun because we can talk and hang out well, also having the movie as background noise."

"This is a fun thing to do, even in between classes," child development junior Marsha Nassif said. "Being able to go get a snack, have a fun craft and leave is a huge appeal."

The UAB hosts events for students all year long, with most recently including roller skating, craft making, karaoke, and pop-up food events. Many students come to the events with friends or because of the concept and theme.

"My favorite part has really been the audience," Ramirez said. "I was shocked to see that this many people showed up, and I’m glad because it’s a mix of classic movie lovers and also people who love crafts."

"I think it’s a fun thing to do because it’s so worth it," Marroqin said. "I feel like they give you so much for what you’re getting out of it, and I just always have enjoyed them."

The students are what make these events so exciting and memorable. Being able to get out and enjoy themed activities with a group of friends is what makes UAB so special. Marroquin was happy to have a fun activity to do on campus.

Child development junior Marsha Nassif likes to attend events like this, but wishes more people knew about them. With the amount of things going on on campus, it is easy for smaller events to be overlooked.

"I feel like they should be pushed out more," Nassif said. "Maybe I don’t look for it, but I feel like a lot of people don’t know about them."
