MSU men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo and the team earned their first commitment of the 2026 class in Wayne Memorial guard Carlos Medlock Jr.

Medlock Jr., a point guard, helped lead Wayne Memorial to the first MHSAA state final appearance in program history.

The shifty guard averaged 21.4 points with 5.5 rebounds, three assists and three steals per game before leaving for Link Academy in Missouri for his capstone season this winter, a team with seven Division I commits on its 2024-25 roster.

When he arrives in East Lansing, Medlock Jr. will join a backcourt that includes juniors Jeremy Fears Jr. and Kur Teng. The crafty shooter is expected to bring needed three-point scoring to the Spartans’ rotation.

Medlock Jr. held offers from 15 Division I programs but ultimately chose MSU, turning down schools including Michigan, which On3 had previously listed as a top contender.

In a post on X, Medlock Jr. told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that he felt a strong bond with MSU.

"I chose Michigan State because I genuinely feel that I have a real connection with the whole coaching staff and they make me feel like I'm home," Medlock said. "I see it as a program where I can go in and help take my game to the next level. They will help me become a better person off the court."

Medlock Jr.’s commitment marks a promising start to MSU’s 2026 recruiting class, as Izzo looks to build another high-powered backcourt for the future.
