Freshman guard Jase Richardson has declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, he announced on Tuesday on social media.
“I’m extremely grateful to coach Izzo and the entire Michigan State coaching staff for the opportunity to represent Michigan State Basketball,” part of Richardson’s post read. “I can’t thank you all enough for your unwavering support and your commitment to my growth, both on and off the court.”
Richardson is coming off of an incredible season for Michigan State University basketball. In the latter half of the season, he found a spot in the starting lineup and became an offensive leader with his prowess. He helped guide the Spartans to a 17-3 Big Ten record, a regular season championship, a 30-7 season record and an Elite Eight appearance, Izzo’s 11th in his 30 seasons.
Richardson averaged 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, but found his footing later in the season. Since he became a starter, he scored in double digits in all but one game — against No. 10 New Mexico in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He led the team with a 41.2% three-point percentage and 49.3% shooting percentage.
Head coach Tom Izzo praised Richardson multiple times for his offensive efficiency, often missing few shots and rarely turning the ball over — he had 30 turnovers in 912 minutes.
A mock NBA Draft from USA Today has Richardson picked No. 13, behind other Big Ten stars like Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, Kasparas Jakucionis and Derik Queen. In another mock NBA Draft, Bleacher Report has Richardson going No. 8 overall, while The Athletic has him going No. 10 and CBS Sports has him at No. 8.
The NBA draft combine will be held May 11-18 in Chicago and the draft will be June 25-26 in New York.
