Michigan State men’s basketball freshman guard Jase Richardson was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
The No. 8 Spartans beat Illinois and Michigan away and Purdue at home this past week, which helped them improve to 22-5 overall and 13-3 in Big Ten play, putting them atop the Big Ten standings.
From the last two games, Richardson has averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists per game. He also shot over 55% from the field and made four of the team’s 13 three-pointers against Purdue and Michigan.
Against both Purdue and Michigan, he led the team with 12 and 21 points, respectively, fueling the Spartans to both wins.
This season, Richardson has averaged 10.8 points per game, behind senior guard Jaden Akins with 13, and has grabbed 2.7 rebounds per game, along with 1.8 assists. He leads the team with 40% three-point shooting and is one of the most consistent free-throw shooters. He’s scored in double figures 14 times out of the 26 games he’s played.
This is Richardson’s first All-Big Ten honor.
