MSU men’s basketball senior guard Jaden Akins was selected by the United States Basketball Writers Association as one of 50 men’s college basketball players for the 2024-25 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watchlist.
Akins, one of 12 Big Ten players on the watchlist, has averaged 13.5 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game on 42.7% shooting. He has started all 21 games this season. Akins has helped lead the Spartans to an 18-3 record so far, with a 9-1 Big Ten record and a perfect 11-0 at home.
A Farmington, Michigan native, Akins is the only four-year MSU player and has become the team’s leader. This season, he set new career highs with 25 points against Samford and 12 rebounds and six assists against Bowling Green.
Akins’ spot on the watch list confirms him to be a contender for the National Player of the Year, which will be announced at the NCAA Men’s Final Four between April 5 and April 7. The final watch list will be released in early March.
