For the 12th time in 13 weeks of Big Ten play, the No. 2 Michigan State hockey team earned a Big Ten Star of the Week honor.
Senior defenseman David Gucciardi was named Second Star of the Week after a standout weekend against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Spartans secured a commanding 9-3 win in the first game and earned an extra point in a 3-3 tie after a shootout victory in the second.
Gucciardi matched his career-high in goals, scoring twice during the first game, with his second tally in the middle frame serving as the game-winner. In the second game, he contributed assists on two of the Spartans’ three goals.
With a 4-8-12 scoring line, Gucciardi has tied his career best in both points and goals while holding the third-highest plus/minus rating on the team at +17.
Ranked No. 2 in the USCHO poll, the Spartans displayed their strengths by taking five of six possible points at home against the Golden Gophers.
MSU will travel to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, and at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31.
