Michigan State women's soccer celebrates a goal against Xavier University at DeMartin Soccer Stadium on Sept. 1, 2024.

Following a 1-0 road victory over No. 15 Penn State Sunday, MSU women’s soccer has found itself atop the US Soccer Coaches Poll, ranked No. 1 in the country Tuesday.

This marks the program's first-ever appearance in the top spot of the Coaches Poll, adding to the growing list of accomplishments for MSU this season.

The victory at Penn State moved the Spartans to 8-0-2, the best start through ten games in program history.

This week's Coaches Poll saw MSU move up four spots after receiving seven of eight first-place votes. The lone vote not given to the Spartans was awarded to No. 2 University of Arkansas, which the Spartans battled to a 2-2 draw in late August.

In addition to the Razorbacks, the Spartans jumped Duke, Florida State and formerly No. 1-ranked Stanford, which finds itself below the top spot for the first time since the beginning of August after a 1-0 loss to No. 5 Wake Forest, dropping five spots in the poll.

The nation's new number one team is back in action Thursday, Sept. 26 in Columbus, OH, where the Spartans will face off against Ohio State. Streaming will be available on Big Ten Plus, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Following the match against the Buckeyes, the Spartans will return to DeMartin Stadium for a two-match homestand beginning with Rutgers on Sunday, Sept. 29, followed by a derby match against University of Michigan on Oct. 5.
